Bright Future - Entangled - Aletheia
My work begins in touch. With wool, paper, clay, fibres. With the imprints of a frozen body searching for connection.
The body appears in traces, in fragments that slowly unfold. The works in this exhibition are formed by that process: the unfolding visibility of what long remained beneath the surface, of what is fragile and interwoven.
Bright Future is part of Body (under) Pressure, the printmaking project from which my search for capturing the stories our bodies and skin carry first emerged. Body (under) Pressure explores how creation can arise again after a loss of trust in one’s own body. I seek to capture what life quite literally imprints onto us, and to explore how healing begins in safe connection.
Through the works Entangled and Rooting, I untangle threads of my story, meeting my younger self along the way. In the accompanying performance Aletheia, I move outward, toward visibility. I explore what happens when threads loosen and a mask no longer conceals, but opens space for authenticity and play.
As a community we unravel, unmask, and celebrate.
Ik wil een plek om thuis te komen.
Een plek waar de boom in mijn oor fluistert dat ik veilig ben
terwijl ik mijn hoofd mag leunen tegen de bast.
Waar mos kriebelt in mijn nek,
ik mijn longen voltrek met lucht
tot mijn lijf stopt met daveren.
Ik wil zacht wiegen, soms kraken.
Ontluiken, openbreken,
alsof ik altijd al thuishoorde in de schaduw van deze boom.
Ik wil de boom zijn waartegen ik mijn hoofd leun
in mijn eigen oor fluisterend dat ik veilig ben.
Kriebel. Adem. Wieg. Krak. Bloei.
Ik ben mijn plek om thuis te komen.
Kunstgrillen is a yearly exhibition by BarVIZart in Wilrijk, Antwerp. BarVIZart is a collaborative space that empowers young artists to develop and show their work.
Kunstgrillen 2026 started from a simple question: what does it mean to be part of a community that creates space for who you are? It was process of cocreation between 22 young artists, curated by Lore Van Roelen.
The exhibition took on the shape of a home, in which not only the artwork but the artists and their communities inhabited the space, reflecting on what it means to feel connected, safe and at home.
